Funds support critical and innovative programming for LCPS students.
Despite the heavy rain, it was Loudoun County students that were on the minds of the 120 golfers who teed off at The Club at Creighton Farms on Monday.
With the help of 30 foursomes and a record number of business partners, the Loudoun Education Foundation’s 23rd Annual Golf Classic, presented by Belfort Furniture, raised $156,824 for the nonprofit organization.
The donations will support LEF’s mission of empowering Loudoun County Public Schools students to reach their full potential.
LEF leverages community resources to enhance critical and innovative programming, as well as opportunities, for students and educators.
As an example, LEF’s Fueled program supports 2,000 students at 40 schools each week through weekly meal bags and in-school pantries.
Fueled has seen a steep spike in need among students and families. Requests for meal bags have increased 35 percent over the past year, just as food costs are also on the rise.
“We are so thankful for our business partners and generous individuals who helped us raise critical funding that will help LEF meet students’ basic needs so they come to class ready to learn,” LEF Executive Director Danielle Nadler said. “The funds raised will also help LEF invest in workforce development programming that connects students’ interest with career opportunities.”
The Title Sponsor for this year’s LEF Golf Classic is Belfort Furniture. It is fitting for Belfort Furniture to serve as the fundraiser’s Title Sponsor, as the store’s owners, Mike and Kristi Huber, were some of the earliest supporters of LEF’s work.
Many years ago, the two met as students in a community college class taught by Fred Flemming, a longtime educator who helped create LEF. Flemming shared about the work of this small nonprofit that was empowering educators and students, and invited the Hubers to join in.
They have since been consistent partners with the nonprofit, sponsoring LEF’s Golf Classic and the Outstanding Educators Banquet.
"Kristi and I are extremely fortunate that our paths crossed with Fred Flemming years ago. His vision for LEF was wholeheartedly supporting educators and students, providing them with the resources and opportunities they need to thrive." Huber stated. "Year after year, LEF continues to focus on enriching the educational experience of LCPS students, ensuring that each student has an equal opportunity to reach their full potential and lead successful lives, which undeniably benefits our wider community.”
LEF’s Golf Classic is one of the most successful local charity golf tournaments, thanks to the business partners like Title Sponsor Belfort Furniture, Banquet Sponsor Cigna, and Sign Sponsor SpeedPro Northern Virginia.
LEF also thanked The Club at Creighton Farms for the opportunity to host their event on one of the most prestigious courses on the East Coast.
